Remodeling Activity Expected to Surge in 2013

Joe Phillips - Tuesday, November 13, 2012
Remodeling activity is expected to pick up quite a bit next year. According to Remodeling Magazine, “a very robust remodeling season is brewing, with annual homeowner spending on home improvements expected to reach double-digit gains in the first half of 2013.”

The article cites the Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA), a publication from the Remodeling Futures Program at the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University, as predicting more than $130 billion to be spent on home improvement by the end of the second quarter of 2013. Kermit Baker, the director of the Remodeling Futures Program, calls the numbers “absolutely smoking” and that he is hopeful that “we’re going to get this surge that LIRA is predicting.”
